Mark Nordlicht is an American financier and hedge fund manager. He is best known as the co-founder and Chief Investment Officer of Platinum Partners, a New York-based investment firm. Nordlicht specialized in distressed and special situation investments and managed funds with a focus on small and mid-cap companies.
In December 2016, Nordlicht was arrested and charged with securities fraud, conspiracy to commit securities fraud, and other related offenses. He was accused of operating a Ponzi-like scheme that defrauded investors out of hundreds of millions of dollars. Nordlicht and several other individuals associated with Platinum Partners were indicted for their alleged involvement in the scheme.
Nordlicht denied the allegations and maintained his innocence throughout the legal proceedings. In 2019, he was found guilty on several charges related to the fraud scheme and sentenced to 7 years in prison. The case against Nordlicht and Platinum Partners was considered one of the largest hedge fund fraud cases in recent years.
